Inez Elizabeth Scholl was born March 31, 1916, at Fairfax, SD, the first of two children in the family of Ted and Olga (Lindgren) Scholl. At the age of five years her mother died and Inez and her younger brother Lester were welcomed into the home of their Uncle George and Aunt Edith Scholl who raised them to adulthood. This home provided Inez with the loving foundation which characterized her life.

Inez attended school in Gregory where she excelled in Home Ec. and was the state typing champion. She then attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell and received her teaching degree.

Inez began her teaching career in Boyden, IA where she met Herman VandenBosch. They were married on July 14, 1939, in Boyden and lived there until the early 1940's when her husband joined her Uncle George Scholl in the oil business in Gregory. Inez then taught in the Gregory and Burke school systems until the late 1950's when she began to substitute teach until the middle 1960's. About this time her typing skill was required to convert the Gregory Times-Advocate from the old linotype to the new offset method, a job which required about a year. She then began a new career of keeping books for her husband and son Paul in the oil buisiness.

Inez was a very talented homemaker and used her many skills to benefit her family and community. She excelled at sewing, cooking, crafts and painting. She served as the organist at the United Methodist Church for many years providing her music for the services and for countless weddings and funerals.

She and Herman enjoyed their Friday night bridge games; and when they began to spend winters in Mesa, AZ, they enjoyed playing cards with their old and new friends. Inez also used this time to work on her paintings.

Inez was not feeling well on her return to Gregory this past spring and shortly after was diagnosed wtih cancer. She died on August 15, 1996 at the age of 80 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her foster parents.

She is survived by her husband, Herman Vanden Bosch of Gregory, and three sons: Paul and his wife Ruth of Gregory; Jerry and his wife Carolyn of Cleveland, OH; and Donn and his wife Alicia of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; her brother Lester, and a half-sister Naomi Broida, and by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
