Norman Olson, 76, of Pickstown

Norman Olson, 76, of Pickstown died Saturday, March 10, 2018 at his home in Pickstown. Funeral services are 10 AM, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Pickstown Community Church in Pickstown. Burial is in the Riverview Cemetery in Pickstown, with military honors. Visitation is at the church on Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM.

Norman Glen Olson was born November 9, 1941 in Spencer, Nebraska to Emfrey L. and Elsa L. (Martinson) Olson. Norman went peacefully into the presence of his Lord while at home on March 10, 2018. He was 76 years old.

Norman grew up on the family farm outside of Fairfax, SD. He was the third son of 5 and he had no better friendships of those of his brothers. He attended Pickstown High School and graduated in 1959. He then enlisted in the US Air Force in 1961 and served with the 35th Air Defense Missle Squadron. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Norman was recruited by Boeing to work in Seattle for their 747 Program.

While in Seattle, Norman had 2 children, Stefanie Sue and Aron Glen. Norman soon realized that he enjoyed working for himself and became the “original house flipper.” He bought and restored homes in the Seattle area and then rented them out or sold them.

Norman moved back to South Dakota in 1995 and built his home in Pickstown in 1996. He continued owning and renting multiple properties in South Dakota and Nebraska. This kept him busy as he loved fixing and “puttering” around. Farming with his brother Conrad was always one of his great joys in life. He loved working on projects and always had something in the works. Norman loved having visitors in his home and was always up for a game of Aggravation.

He loved living in Pickstown. He loved his church, his many friends and neighbors, serving with the American Legion, and he was especially proud of helping build the Pickstown Museum and served as Vice President.

Norman loved the Lord with all his heart and studied and lived everyday for Him. He also fiercely loved his children and his five grandchildren. He loved visiting them and attending their activities in Seattle and Texas as much as he could. They were his greatest accomplishment and joy. He was so very proud of them.

Thankful to have shared his life are: his daughter Stefanie (Mike) Anderson and their children Bryce and Kaysa of Lake Stevens, WA; his son Aron (Melissa) Olson and their children Garrett, Anna, and Connor of Fort Worth, TX; Brother Lorin (Karen) Olson of Sunset, SC; Sister-in-law Etta Mae Olson of Albion, NE; Sister-in-law Barbara Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, neighbors and loved ones.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers; Donald, Warren, and Conrad.
