Fire Within is a book about advancing in prayer. It compiles key elements of the written works of St. Teresa of Avila along with St. John of the Cross and presents them to the reader in a way that is highly understandable and inspirational. Written by Father Thomas Dubay, this is a most excellent work on contemplative prayer. Additionally, I find certain chapters such as 11. The Universal Call to be real gems in presenting clear answers to the reader as to why contemplative prayer should be considered by everyone and how all are called to sainthood.
I've read other works by Fr. Thomas Dubay. He truly is one of the great religious authors of the 20th century. While I've not read all of Dubay's books, Fire Within is currently the best of his books I've encountered so far. Highly recommended!
I first encountered this book at formed.org. Formed.org is an excellent resource of books, movies, short videos, and audio lectures covering all aspects of Christian and Catholic faith. Formed.org may be available at no-cost to you if you live within a participating parish. You need not be Catholic to have free access to Formed.org. For those of you who don't have access to formed.org, I'll list some alternate locations immediately below where you can purchase this book. As I have no affiliations or any associations with the below retailers, it makes no difference to me how or where you purchase this book.
